About us

The Clockhouse Community Centre has been an active Community Centre in the Woolwich Riverside Ward for many years.  Since 1997 it devolved from direct Council management and has been an independent Charitable Company governed by the Trustees and Directors representing affiliated members from local community groups.

Originally the building, built in the 1780s, was the old customs house within the Woolwich Docks, notable by its prominent clock.  The busy Thames side docks were founded by Henry VIII in 1513 and give this Grade II listed building an outstanding River view.

The Centre is located within a mile of Woolwich Town Centre, near the Woolwich Ferry and the South Circular.  Local Government has improved the riverside walk and allows easy access to the Thames Barrier and Greenwich.

It is a central hub of the local community providing affordable hall and room hires for leisure, sports and arts activities for a large number of affiliated community groups and venues for training, meetings and private functions. Lunch and Refreshments are provided on request for hall and room hirers. The Clockhouse has a community cafe which is run with volunteers and offers low cost helathy freshly cooked meals. It is open Monday - Thursday from 08.30am - 3.30pm.  Clockhouse works in partnership with Public Health Royal Borough of Greenwich, Well London and many stakeholders for engaging local communities for their health & wellbeing. . Clockhouse hosts a fully equipped ICT Suite. Free Basic Computer training classes for Adults and Senior Citizens in the local community run on Wednesdays &Thursdays.  This ICT Suite is also available for hire for local businesses/ companies training their staff at a reasonable price.

The Clockhouse Board of volunteer Trustees meets regularly and contribute a great deal for the governance and running of the Centre, supporting the small loyal band of staff and volunteers headed by the Centre Manager.
